How do I find a new library book? (Grades 6, 7, and 8)
1. Is your teacher requiring you to read a particular genre? Am I reading for pleasure?
When you go to the bookstore or library or search online for a certain type of book, you're probably searching for a genre. Understanding genres helps you find books you'll enjoy reading, but it's also good to help you understand what you're reading and what to expect from a book. Mystery, sci-fi, realistic fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, horror, and nonfiction are examples of genres.
2. Do I need to find a specific AR level? Am I reading for fun or seeking information?

Go to Advanced Search under the search bar at the top to set specific parameters for finding titles.
On the Advanced Search screen, scroll down to Grade Level on the left. Select, for example, 6 for 6th grade.
Then, on the right, type in 6* or 7* (your choice) next to Accelerated Reader (ATOS) Book Level. Click Search at the very bottom or try one of the other options for finding the right book for you.
Remember, your school library or public library may not have every book listed.
You may have ask a parent or grandparent if they can purchase a specific book for you.
If you can't visit the Calcasieu Parish Public Library in person,
you can download the Hoopla app and use your library card number and pin to borrow Hoopla digital books.
